Requires installation and configuration of Microsoft’s Simple Network Management Protocol. Use Add/Remove Programs – Add/Remove Windows Components. Selection Simple Network Management Protocol under the Management and Monitoring Tools option. Microsoft’s has several documents detailing the SNMP service; this one provides a good overview.
Unity Connection ships with the Cisco Unity Connection Network Security Wizard. This wizard guides you through configuring the Windows Server 2003 firewall settings. You will need to run this wizard and select the Allow SNMP monitoring (UDP port 161) setting before SNMP traffice will be allowed through the firewall. You can find this wizard in the Cisco Unity Connection\TechTools subdirectory, it is named NetworkSecurityWizard.exe (default location would be C:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\Cisco Unity Connection\TechTools).
If the SNMP service is failing to start refer to this article about possible causes: SNMP Service Will Not Start with Event ID: 7024
You can manually start and stop the CDP driver from the command line with NET START CDP and NET STOP CDP. You must have stopped the SNMP service prior to stopping the CDP driver, use NET STOP SNMP. You can also get debug information from the CDP driver via an application like DebugView from www.sysinternals.com. Download and install DebugView then modify the DebugLevel setting for the CDP driver in the registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDP\Parameters\DebugLevel). Set the DWORD value to Decimal 31 (Hexadecimal 1f). You will need to stop and restart the CDP driver for this setting to be read (remember you must stop the SNMP service before the CDP Driver will stop).
If you upgrade Unity you should rerun the RSKConfigurationWizard so that the version number transmitted by the CDP driver can be updated.
The RSK generates various Log files, these logs can be found in the RSK’s executable directory (typically, Program Files\Cisco Systems\Cisco Unity Connection\Utilities\RemoteServiceabilityKit\Bin\Logs). These logs will be rolled and only the 10 most current logs will be kept.
If Unity is not running, some of the objects in the Unity MIB will not be available and you will receive an SNMP Generic Error when your NMS attempts to get them.
