Overview

This is a simple tool that allows users to safely edit many of the “hidden registry settings” that commonly need to be modified in the field.  These are items that, for whatever reason, are not on the SA interface and require users to add/edit keys to the registry.

This tool prevents potential messy accidents by forcing specific value ranges, making sure edits aren’t applied to Unity versions that can’t handle them.  There’s only a couple settings in here that are “String” values that need to be edited “free form”.  The rest are all limited to a drop down list of value or are “key only” values where the mere presence of the key in the registry is sufficient.

Requirements/Special Notes

Runs with Unity version 2.4.6 or later.  Keys will be visible only for those values that are legal to adjust on the locally running system

You can add you own keys (see below) however they will be overwritten if you update the tool to a later version.

Adding New Values To Database

Adding new keys to the database is easy but should only be done by folks in development or TAC since new versions of the registry edit tool will install their own MDB files which will write over any changes you might make in the field.  However if you still feel the need to add key to the database, here’s what you need to do.

Start the Registry Edit tool using the command line parameter “/AddKey”.  When you do this an additional menu item named “Add New Key” will appear in the menu bar at the top.  Select this option and a form will appear that lets you add, delete and edit the registry key settings in the current database stored in “Settings.MDB” in the install directory.

Be careful!  The tool will let you edit or delete existing key settings which you probably don’t want to do.

For each registry value you want to add to the database, fill in the values on the form.  Here’s a quick run down on what each field means:
