General Tools page last updated on: 09/07/08

The tools on this page are not specific to a version of Unity or are documents or tech tips that are more general information.

If you have suggestions for modifications for any of these applications or have ideas for additional tools or documents you thing would be useful email me and let me know about it.  Most of these tools and documentation have been developed based on suggestions from the field.

Here's a list of all downloads in alphabetical order

Installable Applications

These are all installable VB applications which are designed to be run directly on the server where Unity is installed.  Most are also designed to be run while logged in as the same account that installed Unity.   Since Unity installs all the VB runtime libraries already, the installs for these applications can skip installing them.  As a result each of the setups for these applications fit on single floppy disks and do NOT require Unity be rebooted after installing.

Check back for updates often as I keep these updated fairly regularly.  The home page has a running list of the site updates you can refer to.

File Stripper

Application that lets you grab the last part of very large diagnostic files.  Handy for Dialogic debug files which can't be set to "roll" after they reach a certain size, they just keep growing into multiple gigs worth of output.

WaveGain

This tool is helpful for adjusting the record and playback volume settings when using the AvCiscoTSP version 1.0.0.24 or later.

NOTE: As of Unity 3.1 AGC (Automatic Gain Control) is supported on the Unity side of the house and adjusting the base bump up/down of volume should no longer be necessary and, in fact, should be avoided as AGC works must better.

Advanced Settings Tools (Edit Hidden Registry Settings)

Simple tool that lists all the hidden Unity settings that are tucked in and around the registry and allows you to safely set them.  It does version checking to make sure you're not trying to set values that aren't appropriate to the version of Unity you're running and includes descriptions of what each setting does.

Alternate Directory Handler Prompts Alternate wordings for asking users to spell the first/last or last/first name when searching for users in the directory.
Gather Unity System Info (GUSI)

Tool used to grab a snapshot of your Unity system information including Unity versions, drivers, service pack info for SQL, Windows and Exchange, local configuration information and 5 days worth of event log output.  Tool that TAC will start requiring sites to run when escalating cases since it'll give them all the basic data they need to start troubleshooting the system in question.

This tool works for Unity 3.0(1) and later.

TTY Angel Tool to generate WAV files that can be played to TTY/TDD phone devices that use the Baudot protocol (standard in North America and also used around the world).  It supports creating WAV files using 45.45, 50, 75 and 110 baud (45.45 is standard for the U.S.).

It has functions to create prompts in bulk, convert a standing Unity prompt set to TTY/TDD WAV files and for simply converting whatever text you type in.  It also includes a dictionary for replacing words with abbreviations that users of TTY/TDD devices commonly use.

TTY WAV Maker This is a lighter version of the same tool as TTY Angel.  It's designed to lets end users create TTY messages from text easily for replying/sending voice mails to TTY/TDD users.  This tool is much lighter and easier for typical end users than the full TTY Angel.
TTY WAV Reader A simple tool that will parse a WAV file and pull out the text corresponding to the Baudot TTY tones found in there (if any).  This is handy for users at their desktops that want to see a message left by someone using a TTY/TDD device without having to run it through a TDD device themselves - much faster and easier.
Third Party Fax Admin Tool Tool to let you configure Unity to work with any 3rd party fax server and to adjust which file types Unity allows when forwarding an email as a fax
CUPID Cisco Unity Performance Information and Diagnostics (CUPID) is a service and administration application that collects perfmon counters at definable intervals and writes them to a CSV file for tracking purposes.
Cisco Untiy Bulk Bridge Node Utility (CUBBNUT)

The Cisco Unity Bridge Bulk Node Utility (CUBBNUT) allows a Cisco Bridge administrator to add, change or delete Unity and Octel nodes via a .csv file.

Bridge Traffic Analyzer

Set of 4 reports designed to help administrators analyze and understand the traffic going through the Cisco Bridge server which is used to connect Unity servers to Octel servers.
Bridge Analog Network And Node Analyzer (BANANA)

BANANA is a stand-alone application that runs on the Cisco Unity Bridge server.  It is designed to assist with monitoring and troubleshooting of analog communication between the Bridge and other Octel nodes in the analog network.  It also provides detail and summary information of call activity. You can also install and configure the BANANA service to do its tasks at configurable intervals.

Set Prompt Speed This tool can slow down or speed up the Unity prompts system wide for sites that think the voice talent for Unity talks too slowly or too quickly.  The change is system wide and the tool must be run while Unity is off line.
Audio Stat The AudioStat utility allows audio driver statistics to be viewed in real time. The information provided by AudioStat can help isolate audio quality issues due to packet delay and codec-related problems.
MAPI Message Store Viewer This is an unsupported MS tool for diagnosing MAPI message store problems - it should only be used at the direction of TAC.
